I am not in want!

Outline of This Week’s Bible Study: “Experiencing and Enjoying the all inclusive Christ as the Good Land- a Land in Which We Do Not Lack Anything.”

Scripture Reading: Col. 1-12, 2-6, 15, 19, Deut. 8-9, Gen. 17-1, Phil. 1-19

This outline remind me 2 things. One is Psalm 23 and the other is a parable of the vine. To quote Psalm 23, it is as follows:

“(Psalm 23)

• The LORD is my shepherd,

I shall not be in want.

• He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

• he restores my soul. He guides me

in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

• Even though I walk through the valley

of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

• You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

• Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”

Among Psalm 23, the first and last verses of Psalm 23 are most related to the subject to discuss. Those are “I shall not in want” and “I will dwell in the house of Lord forever.”

First verse match well with ‘Good land in which we do not lack anything.’ And the phrase of ‘the house of Lord’ of last verse meets well with ‘all inclusive Christ as the good land.’

Although we live in the harsh world, the reason why we must be content and be always thankful is this is athe house of Lord and the all inclusive Christ as the good land.

And I really like the English expression of the first verse of Psalm 23 of “I shall not in want” instead of the expression of “we do not lack anything.”

I can’t explain clearly the difference between two expressions but the clear point that I feel more convincing comes from “not in want” and “not lack anything.” I believe that the former is more subjective and definitive than the latter.

In the parable of the vine, it can be said

that the vine also corresponds to the Lord’s good land. “I am the vine and you are the branches.”

When the branches remain attached to

the vine, they will be supplied with everything and enjoy a full life without

any lack.
