반 고흐(Vincent van Gogh)의 행복한 변신(變身)!

“Van Gogh arrived in Auvers-sur-Oise, a village some thirty kilometres

northwest of Paris, on 20 May 1890. The painter soon became fascinated by his new surroundings and recorded the landscape in a large number

of sketches and paintings. This small study in oils shows part of the village that sprawled along the banks of the Oise. The composition consists of four different layers: the field in the foreground, rendered in broad, vigorous brushstrokes; the geometrical string of coloured roofs in the middle;

a strip of thickly applied, bright green meadows behind; and the almost

translucent white sky with a few streaks of blue for the clouds.

The varied application of the paint is noteworthy; at several points

between the houses the structure of the bare canvas can even be seen.”

제목은 ‘오베르에서 본 풍경(View from Auvers)’입니다.

설명에 의하면 후기 인상파에 속한 고흐가 파리 북서쪽에

위치한 오베르라고 하는 작은 시골 마을을 그렸다고 한다.

이 그림을 그렸을 때의 행복한 고흐의 얼굴을 연상시키는

아름다운 시골 마을의 풍광이기에 더욱 마음이 가는 작품이다.

마을 너머로 넓게 펼쳐진 들의 푸르름과 마치 소풍 가는 어린

아이들의 마음을 표현한 맑고 따뜻한 하늘은 그 날의 고흐의

어린 아이와 같이 들뜬 마음이 아니었을까? 생각해 본다.

마을의 작은 집들의 아름다운 선들과 마을 앞에 그려진 덩굴로

한데 어울린 수풀은 이곳의 풍경을 더욱 활기 있게 꾸미고 있다.

행복한 고흐의 웃음 짓는 얼굴을 그리노라니, 그 동안 고흐의 닫혀

있었던 마음의 창문을 열고 창문 너머로 나있는 행복의 오솔길로

그와 함께 걸으며, 그를 위로하고 보듬는 듯 내 마음도 흡족해질

것 같다!
